The commander land forces Lieutenant Gen Katumba Wamala has ahailed the role played by the Uganda peacekeeping troops in pacifying Somali.
Wamala told the parliament on the committee on defends on internal affairs that some of the Peacekeeping troops will be withdrawn.
This is the African Union asked the government of Uganda and Burundi to reduce the troops in Somalia, since the country is almost secure now.
Speaking in Kampala today, Gen Wamala said the country has been divides into four military zones with Uganda controlling one and others being controlled by Kenya, Burundi and Djibouti.
He says that the country is now going through the process of electing MPs who will them later elect a president on August 20th .
Gen. Wamala says the UPDF peacekeeping troops has succeeded in creating an environment which has enabled the political process to start.
The current transitional federal of government is supposed to end by the 20th of August, 2010 as the elected assembly takes effect.
“ Our gallant soldiers how have been able to create an environment which is appreciated not only by the Somali People but also the international community,” Katumaba Wamala said.
